Message from Your Counselor:
Greetings Students of Monroe County High, my name is Chermine Wright and I am the new Counselor here at MCHS.  I come to you eagerly anticipating a great virtual year.  I have 23 years experience as an educator and 14 years of experience as a Counselor.  I am so excited knowing that this is a first for all of us.  I plan to make this the most memorable year ever as your Counselor.
2020-2021 begins a new school year that will  bring  GREAT CHANGES and CHALLENGES that we must all  face.  As your counselor,  I plan to help support the academic achievement of all students as well as outline a support base system that will allow me to address the  emotional needs of both my students and parents.  Virtual learning may create barriers and challenges that seem difficult at times, but I plan with the assistance of our administrators  and teachers to implement a plan for anyone who is in need of extra guidance from my office.  This mission will be accomplished by assisting those who need help with School PLP, individual planning , emotional and social support.  This will include both parents and students.  Please KNOW that I am ALWAYS here for you.  Let's have a GREAT YEAR.

Go Tiger Pride!

The Role of the Professional School Counselor here at Monroe County High School:

Students/Parents/Guardians:
The school counseling program here at MCHS is geared toward meeting the social, emotional, and academic/career needs of all students. This is carried out by classroom guidance, individual student planning, responsive services, and system support.

The guidance program is directed by a professionally trained counselor that follows the counseling guidelines set forth by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA).

In attempt to meet the needs of all students, various services are offered throughout the year.  Services include classroom guidance (virtual learning) lessons which address broad developmental topics such as (self-esteem, social skills, problem-solving skills, career awareness, bullying, etc.) as well as individual counseling for students who have specific needs.  Specialized guidance services are also provided to students by way of outside agencies throughout the District.

When the counselor is not working with students, they are consulting with teachers, administrators, parents and Central Office personnel.  I have an open door policy where students, parents or the community can freely conference with me at any time as it relates to our students. Some of the areas of consultation consists of:

  • Academic skills support/progress reports
  • Career preparation
  • Postsecondary planning and application process
  • School adjustment issues
  • Coping, problem-solving, decision-making concerns
  • Organizational, study and test-taking skills
  • Peer relationships and conflict resolution problems
  • Divorce, separation and family changes
  • Experiencing loss, death and grief
  • Substance abuse awareness
  • School-based and community resources information

In the event that you need a service not provided by myself or the Adminstrative team, please ask and we will find ways to help assist you.
